It was not until after World War II that all children in Stroud attended Secondary School.

After the mass child evacuation which played havoc with children's education, the 1944 Education Act insisted on free and compulsory Secondary Education and raised the age for leaving school to 15 years. There was also to be part-time educational provision for all young persons up to the age of 18 years.
