Bowbridge House is a large three-storey stone house with a classical porch and a Venetian window above. At the rear, the building betrays earlier, probably 17th century, origins.
Thomas Newcombe was the owner of nearby Newcombe's Mill, and lived in this house. He became bankrupt in 1813.
It was lived in by the Partridge family, including Thomas Partridge the doctor, in the late nineteenth century. In the 1920s it became a girls’ school.
