The grounds of the estate were developed as a public park. An outdoor swimming pool, replacing the old indoor public baths in Bath Street, opened in 1937. The pool has a notable parabolic diving platform. Tennis courts, a bowling green, and other facilities were added.
In 1971 the leisure centre with indoor pool and sports halls was opened.
