Gas came to Stroud in 1833. Then in 1858, the Stroud Gas Light & Coke Co extended the supply across the District.
Electricity came to Stroud in 1916, and plans to rewire all council houses was set in motion in the 1950s.
Both Gas and Electricity Supplies were Nationalised in the late 1940s and privatised again in the 1980s, leaving British Gas and Midlands Electricity as Stroud's main suppliers.
